Fall Cleaning!

Autumn has arrived, which means it’s time to start thinking about fall cleaning! It’s great to have your house in order before flu season hits! Here is a list of areas in the house that come into contact with a lot of germs that we often forget to clean . . .

Curtains

Curtains are great for blocking out sunlight and giving you more privacy. They are also great at trapping dirt and dust! It is just as important to vacuum your curtains as it is your carpets and upholstery.

Door Knobs

We touch door knobs everyday and really don’t think anything of it. Door knobs can be prime real estate for germs and other unwanted things, so it is a good idea to clean them as often as you can!

Inside Trash Cans

This may seem like an obvious one but trash cans get super dirty. Even if you constantly keep a trash bag or liner over your trash can, food and other disposable items will find a way to dirty up your trash can. You don’t have to clean them every time you clean the house or take out the trash but every once in a while cleaning your trash can would be a good idea!

Light Switch

This may sound gross but your light switch is most likely one of the dirtiest spots in your home. Many people would argue and say that the toilet seat is worse but they would be wrong. People remember to clean their toilets; they often forget to clean the light switches. It is recommended that we clean our light switches at least once a week.

Remote Control

Remotes are so small it doesn’t take long to clean them, but maybe that is why when it comes to cleaning they are one of the most forgotten items. Think how often the remote is touched. Do you have little kids at home who mess with the remote? Have you ever come home from a long day and picked up the remote without washing your hands? Have you ever eaten food while watching TV? There are so many germs that get passed to and from the remote it is important to at least take a wipe and clean it once a month.

Ceiling Fan Blades

Have you ever looked at the top of your ceiling fans? You would not believe the amount of dirt and dust they can collect. The problem that comes from forgetting to clean them is the moment you turn the fan on; it will send all of that dirt and dust flying into the air, and you may have a different kind of winter wonderland in your home! Try and dust your ceiling fans at least once a week.
